Sharing the Joy of Music and Movement with Children

In Music Together® classes, six to twelve children ages birth through kindergarten and their parents or caregivers meet for 45 minutes each week for ten weeks to experience songs, rhythmic rhymes, movement activities, and instrumental play time. The Music Together teacher leads the class in songs and chants featured in the song collection for the current semester. The songs are presented through a variety of musical activities which incorporate fun, playful, interactive ways to focus on tonal and rhythmic elements of music, free expressive dance, small and large movement, prop play, and opportunities for improvisation by children as well as parents.

 

Music Together classes include an artistically conceived flow of songs, nursery rhymes, instrumental jam sessions, finger plays, and movement activities. The combination and types of activities are research-based and support children developing tonal and rhythm competence. In addition, activities evolve from the child's world and include vocal play, rhythm play, animal sounds, and a good bit of genuine, silly fun!

 

All this has been skillfully crafted into materials--the professionally recorded CD's and illustrated songbook--that go home with families each semester to encourage music-making in the car and at home, as well as in class. Not your average "kiddie music," these creatively produced recordings of traditional, world, and original songs have multi-generational appeal and are often among the families' favorites.
